End of Year Banquet
Spring Semester General Body Meeting (GBM)
This past Thursday, we hosted professional recruiters from Chevron as they gave chapter members and fellow students advice on what makes a successful elevator pitch.
Afterward, students got the chance to practice their pitches and get needed pointers to prepare for the upcoming Career Fair.
Here photo of recruiters and students after the events.
Spring semester went by so quickly! Congratulations to our NSBE graduates! We wish you the best of luck as you start a new chapter in your lives.
This spring in NSBE,
NSBE members attended the Career Expo, meeting with recruiters and creating business connections. We also volunteered at KIPP Sunnyside High School, helping young students build boats and learn about engineering. We met with NSBE members from Prairie View and Texas A&M, and built connections with engineers from around the city! We also elected a new executive board for the 2017-2018 school year!
Our members had a great time at NSBE National Convention. Rice engineers headed to Kansas City, MO to participate. At the convention, students attended a career fair and met with hundreds of recruiters, attended workshops to help strengthen careers and resumes, and made time for some fun!
We hope to start the 2017-2018 school year on a good foot! As our members do great things this summer, we hope that they remember NSBE’s mission: to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.
This year’s NSBE’s National Conference was held in Kansas City, Missouri and Rice Engineering students packed their bags and followed suit!
Career Fair:
With the intention to make an impression, we prepared and prepared. Resumes were printed, suits were ironed, shoes were polished. We hit the career fair focused, driven and ready to land that internship/job.
Workshops:
When we weren’t grinding to get the job, you can find us Rice students taking notes at one of the various workshops available. These workshops are designed to help build professionalism as well as provide tips to excel in various aspects of our careers. Workshops range from “How to Land Your Dream Internship and Making the Most of the Internship” to “How to Brand Yourself” to “I Wish Someone Would Have Told Me” and many more.
Authentic Kansas Meals
After a long day of hard work, we packed up and headed out for a nice meal at Artego Pizza! The pizza was to die for and the conversation was stimulating. Family meals are a great way to bond and make memories for a lifetime.
Photoshoots
Of course we had to capture all of the in between moments! NSBE’s 43rd National Conference was truly an amazing time. A lot of our members received offers, interviews, and contact information. Thanks KCMO for an amazing time!
Happy New Year all!
This Fall in Rice NSBE,
We started with a resume workshop and took some killer head shots to get ready for the career fair. We also hosted a “What To Do After The Career Fair” to help guide our members on how to land that interview and that internship. We also discussed all of the different engineering programs and what students can expect in each year of the programs.
As a group, NSBE members participated in tutoring kids at a local church. We also participated in A Walk For Education, which was an event aimed at helping reach low income and disadvantaged youth by talking to them about college and the future. Not to mention all the fun, bonding we did at social meetings and our kickback at the end of the semester.
NSBE hopes to create a supportive environment for our members in all aspects of their time as engineers at rice such as their education, careers, and social life.
